Winnipeg police have charged a woman with manslaughter following the death of a 21-year-old man on Saturday.
The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed that the victim has been identified as Trencent Francois, a member of the Nelson House First Nation who was residing in Winnipeg at the time of the incident.
According to police, officers were called to a serious incident at a home on Toronto Street around 3 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found Francois suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
A woman was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. Police have since confirmed that 20-year-old Precious Rayne Walker has been charged with manslaughter and remains in custody. Authorities noted that the allegation has not yet been tested in court.
The Winnipeg Police homicide unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details have not yet been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
